Trout Camp

EAT, SLEEP, FISH, REPEAT IN SPRING CREEK MECCA.

SPRING & FALL IN THE WISCONSIN DRIFTLESS

In spring, the Driftless wakes up.

Hatches begin. Trout start rising. The valleys come back to life.

Trout Camp puts you right in the middle of it — and does it again when fall rolls around.

ABOUT THE TRIP

The Experience

Trout Camp is built around a simple idea, give anglers the time and space to really fish. Two or three days on the spring creeks of the Wisconsin Driftless, guided by people who know every bend of every stream worth fishing. Mornings on the water, evenings at the cabin, meals that feel nothing like camp food. It's the trip you've been meaning to take for years.

We run Trout Camp in both spring and fall, and both seasons fish differently enough that regulars come back for both. Spring brings hatches, rising fish, and the kind of technical dry fly fishing that makes you feel like you finally figured something out. Fall brings streamer season, aggressive fish, and color in the hills that makes you want to stay another night.

Based on demand we run multiple camps each season — reach out early and we'll find dates that work for your group.

Wisconsin's Best Kept Secret

The Driftless spring creeks most anglers never find are the ones we fish every day. Thanks to years of experience and off-season scouting, we have access to water — and knowledge of that water — that simply isn't available any other way. What looked like a no-name creek on a map might be the site of your best day on a trout stream. That's the advantage of coming with guides who live and fish here year-round.

Who Is Trout Camp For?

Trout Camp is a strong fit for anglers who:

  • Want more than a single day on the Driftless

  • Are ready to improve technically with full days of guided instruction

  • Value great food and good company as much as the fishing

  • Want to experience spring hatches or fall streamer fishing properly

  • Prefer cabin comfort without sacrificing time on the water

Never fished before? We recommend booking a casting lesson before camp so your first day on the creek hits the ground running. Already experienced? We'll find water that challenges you.

The Driftless is best experienced over multiple days.

WHEN’S THE BEST TIME?

*Trout Camps are available April to May & September to October 15th

Trout Camp runs April–May (spring) and September–October 15th (fall). Based on demand, we run multiple camps each season — in 2026 we're offering five spring sessions alone.

Spring (April–May) The prime window for dry fly fishing on the Driftless. Early season Blue-Winged Olive and Caddis hatches bring fish to the surface and make for some of the most visual, technical trout fishing of the year. Water temps are ideal, creeks are clear, and crowds are nonexistent. Spring camp fills fastest — with multiple sessions available, there's flexibility to find dates that work for your group, but spots still go quickly.

Fall (September–October) Streamer season. Brown trout become aggressive and territorial as water temps drop, and the Driftless hills turn spectacular. Some of the largest fish of the year come to hand in October. Fall camp is the hidden gem of the BEAC calendar — fewer people know about it, and the fishing rewards those who show up.

Just got back from trout camp and I still have a smile on my face from ear to ear. This was a memorable experience and looking forward to more trips with Kyle. I’ve caught trout on dries and swinging nymphs before but he definitely helped me bring my game up. This was my first spring hatch that I witnessed and the feeding frenzy that ensues. I was able to pull in many nice fish over the weekend and will keep these memories forever

TROUT CAMP FAQs

  • Walk and wade—this is not fishing from a boat. You can expect to fish from both the bank and in the stream. Wading is relatively easy in the Driftless, with no slippery round rocks to navigate. The water is often waist deep or less, making it accessible for anglers.

  • Trout Camp works well for beginners, with one recommendation — if you've never cast a fly rod before, book a casting lesson with us before camp. It doesn't take long to learn the basics, and arriving with even one session under your belt means your first morning on the creek is spent fishing, not just practicing. We'll take care of the rest.

  • We include use of our equipment on every trip but do not provide waders or boots. That said, waders aren't always necessary. If the weather is mild, wet wading in synthetic pants and close-toed shoes works fine — an old pair of hiking boots is great. Most fishing can also be done from the bank. If you're unsure what to bring, check our packing list or just get in touch.

  • The best description of Driftless spring creeks is they are between a sidewalk and a two-lane road width. They are all very wadable, but few are large enough to float a boat down.

  • As early as possible. Spring camp in particular fills up fast — often by February for the April and May dates. Fall camp has more availability but still goes quickly once the season gets close. If you have a specific window in mind, don't wait.

We're easier to get to than you might think.
