TAKE ON THE WISCONSIN RIVER’S TOP PREDATORS
Toothy Critters
ABOUT THE TRIP
Wisconsin waters' top predators are muskies and pike, making fly fishing for them a thrilling challenge. Targeting these impressive fish on the Wisconsin River requires skill and focus. Preparation is essential, especially as the Lower Wisconsin River, while not labeled “Musky Country,” has a healthy musky population. Anglers find success targeting muskies throughout the river, and the thriving pike population offers a great alternative, particularly when musky fishing is tough. Northern pike, known for their aggression and size, provide exciting fishing, especially on a fly rod. Fly fishing for musky and pike in this dynamic ecosystem is both rewarding and exhilarating. Embrace the challenges of fishing for these apex predators on the Wisconsin River.

WHEN’S THE BEST TIME?

"The group at BEAC have always been awesome. We have taken a few different trips over the past few years and one of our favorites is the Toothy Critters outing. The chills of seeing the toothy critters come up on the fly are breathtaking. Kyle always seems to put us on fish and both my son, and I have gotten our personal best on the fly during our annual outing. Now if I can only work on strip setting better, we will put more fish in the boat!"

TOOTHY CRITTERS FAQs
-
If we’re being honest here, it certainly helps to have the basics down for this style of trip. You by no means have to be an expert, but being a proficient caster certainly ups your chances of landing a fish. You will likely not get many chances at fish on this trip, which can be frustrating for many beginners.
-
Musky are often referred to as the fish of 10,000 casts, and we measure success based on the number of opportunities we had, not just fish in the net. Pike are more willing to eat, but are still not guaranteed.
-
You are likely ready for your first toothy trip if you can confidently cast a 8-10wt rod, single/double haul, and know how to water-load a fly. You are also willing to ‘embrace the suck’ in some less than stellar weather and are able to emotionally recover from a musky giving you the “middle fin” while not eating your fly.
